Koasari Gaek  (1892-1920)

The Udin poet, playwright and educator Koasari  Gaek was born in the settlement of Nij, in Azerbaijan. From an early age he had boundless interest in poetry  and he  began composing his first verses in his native language at the age of 11. Having ended elementary school in Nij, he continued his study  2 years in Sheki, and then from 1907 to 1911 he studied in Tblisi. During study in Tblisi, he had familiarized himself with many classics of Russian, Azerbaijan, Georgian and European literature. In his short life Koasari  had written a great number of poems, various songs, and two dramas of "Tazagul" and "in the darkness". Bisides writing poems in his native language he also was active in the translation to the udi language the works of Pushkin, Krylov, Chavchavadze and some other authors. G.Koasari also was interested in music and was good at playin the kemanche.  His big merit is considered the translation to the udi language and staging of the operetta of a well-known Azerbaijan composer U.Gadzhibekov "Arshin mal Alan". Unfortunately, most of his works were lost. Today in the national memory, there exist some songs ("Black eyes", "National singer", "Mother's song") and a number of poems ("In front of the markets", "I’m harrying to do some work ", "Where are you my baby?" etc.).
